Things We Can Learn From Dogs

November 1, 2023

Our canine companions are truly extraordinary: they’re incredibly loving and loyal, and form extremely strong bonds with their owners. While Fido may be most known for his unwavering devotion, that faithfulness isn’t his only good quality. As it turns out, he’s also a bit of a guru. If you think about it, we can learn quite a lot from dogs. A local Washington DC vet lists some of those lessons below.

Have Fun

Our canine buddies are very playful, which is one reason they’re such a blast to have around. It’s hard not to smile when watching a puppy running after his favorite toy. Playing is important for both dogs and people: it reduces stress, keeps us occupied, and just lifts our spirits. Take time to play with your furry best friend, and remember to carve out some fun time for yourself as well.

Explore

Man’s Best Friend has a very healthy sense of adventure. Dogs often inspire us to go to new parks and trails, and just get out and enjoy the world a bit. Take Fido to a new spot this month. Fall is a perfect time to get outside with your furry pal and enjoy some beautiful scenery.

Try New Foods

To be fair, Fido may take this one a little too far. Dogs will eat, well, pretty much anything, which can be quite dangerous for them. That said, it is healthy to stretch your boundaries. Try a new cuisine or restaurant!

Live For The Moment

Things have been very stressful for many of us lately. It can be easy to feel overwhelmed and anxious about things. Fido, however, is more focused on his next walk or treat. There’s a lot to be said for living in the now.

Follow Your Intuition

Have you ever had an experience where a dog—possibly your dog—immediately disliked someone, and you later found out that the pooch was right? Always trust your intuition!

Show Your Love

One thing about dogs: it’s usually not hard to see what kind of mood they are in. Fido isn’t shy about showing affection. That adorable dance of joy dogs do when their owners come home can brighten up any day. Our canine pals also show their love by following us around, wagging their tails, and also just by cuddling. Don’t be afraid to show affection!
