Black Cat Appreciation Day

August 15, 2022
August 17th is Black Cat Appreciation Day! We’re more than happy to give black cats some extra TLC. Fluffy has been hounded by myths, misconceptions, and superstitions for hundreds of years. Some of those old wives’ ‘tails’ persist to this day! A Washington DC vet lists some reasons to celebrate Fluffy in this article.

Great Photos

Our feline friends always take great pictures, but they look extra cute when wearing all black. You can take adorable photos by positioning Fluffy against a pale background. Or, snap some silly ‘void kitty’ photos of her in a darker spot, so only her eyes show.

Fun Names

We love seeing all the names people come up with for their furry pals. You can really have fun naming a black kitty. You can follow the witchy motif and pick something like Salem or Midnight, or be silly and name your new pet Snowball.

Color Coordinated

We think all of our feline buddies are adorable, but black cats are particularly charming. That shiny fur, paired with striking eyes—which can be any of several colors—are a stunning combination. Fluffy will also go with any décor, and match any outfit you’re wearing.

A Rewarding Experience

Black kitties often have a very hard time getting adopted. This, unfortunately, is in part due to those old myths we mentioned earlier. Giving any animal in need a second chance can be a very special and rewarding experience. Helping the underdog—or in this case, undercat—feels great!

A Unique Pet

Fluffy may look a lot like many other black cats. However, just because she’s wearing a popular outfit doesn’t mean she’s any less of an individual. Our furry buddies all have their own specific tastes, vocalization patterns, quirks, and personality. You’ll still have a one-of-a-kind pet!

Good Luck

Black kitties have long been considered bad luck in the West, but this actually isn’t a universal belief. Black cats have actually been considered fortunate in some cultures. For instance, in England, they are thought to bring blessings to new marriages. In Japan, they’re thought to bring good luck and keep evil spirits away. Fluffy has also gathered her own legends among thesbians: theater lore says that it’s good luck if a black cat shows up on opening night! As your local Washington DC animal clinic, we are dedicated to offering top-notch care. Please feel free to contact us anytime!
