7 Reasons To Play With Your Dog

January 15, 2020

There are many things to love about Man’s Best Friend. He’s not only adorable, he’s also loyal, lovable, smart, and protective. He’s also super playful! As it turns out, playing is extremely beneficial for dogs. A Washington DC vet lists some reasons to play with your pup below.

Exercise

Proper activity is just as important for dogs as it is for us. Playing helps keep Fido fit, and also helps prevent obesity. That alone is a great reason to pick up that ball or Frisbee!

Bonding

Dogs can form some very strong bonds with their human friends. However, that friendship does need to be nurtured. Playing is a great way for you and Fido to spend quality time together!

Curb Bad Behavior

Fido is a wonderful pet and companion, but he isn’t perfect. Dogs can have some bad habits, like digging, chewing, or eating your sofa cushions. Playtime can actually be a big help with this! Playing keeps your pup entertained, which prevents doggy boredom. Plus, it gives him a healthy outlet for any angst he is feeling.

Build Confidence

Dogs are all unique individuals, just like people. While many pups are bold and fearless, others are anxious and fearful. Playing can help a timid pooch gain confidence, kind of like scoring a goal can boost a shy child’s ego.

Zoomies

Some of our canine pals are very, very energetic, especially when they’re young. Playtime is the perfect way to let Fido burn off that extra energy he has. After spending time running after his favorite toy, your pooch will probably be ready for a nap and some belly rubs. (And, of course, a treat.)

It’s Good For You, Too!

We probably don’t have to tell you that life can get pretty stressful. Playing with your dog is a wonderful way for you to enjoy some downtime and just relax and unwind. Plus, if you and your furry BFF enjoy more vigorous activities, like playing tag, it will help you stay fit!

It’s Fun

It’s hard not to smile when watching Fido’s adorable antics! Dogs are the absolute epitome of joyful exuberance when they are bounding after a ball. Doggy playtime may be just as much fun for you as it is for your pet!
