Things to Do With Your Dog in 2019

January 1, 2019

Happy New Year! While we can’t predict what will happen in 2019, we do have a pretty good idea of what some of our canine patients will be doing. Fido will spend lots of the new year running, playing, sleeping, begging, and generally being his loyal, loving self. Why not make an effort to make this year a great one for him? Here, a Hyattsville, MD vet lists some things to do with Fido this year.

Get In Shape

Fitness is a top resolution for many people. Why not make your workouts more fun by including Fido? If your vet gives the OK, you may be able to bring your canine buddy running or hiking. Even smaller pooches can be included in fitness. For instance, if you’re doing sit-ups at home, grab a dog toy and toss it every time you sit up.

Enjoy A Homemade Snack

Want to make yourself a great dinner and get that tail wagging? Make a pet-friendly meatloaf out of minced beef or turkey, parmesan cheese, tomato sauce, breadcrumbs, peas, and carrots. Give your pup a piece as a special treat. (Note: hold the garlic and onions: they aren’t safe for Fido.)

Play Some Games

Our four-legged friends make life more fun, and really keep us laughing with their playful antics. Playing is great for both you and Fido! Get your pet’s tail moving by playing Hide and Seek or Tag with him. It’s also important to do things you enjoy this year.

Learn Something New

Training is great for dogs. It helps teach Fido proper petiquette, and also keeps him safe. Learning new things is also a great way to offer your pet beneficial mental stimulation. If your pooch already knows basic doggy obedience, show him some fun tricks or try something more advanced. (This is also a great goal for people. No matter where you are in life, there’s always more to learn.)

Relax

Fido can be a bouncy, furry ball of energy, but he also enjoys just relaxing and taking a good nap. Enjoy some down time with your canine friend.

Strike A Pose

Dogs will never stop being adorable. Take time to snap some pictures of you and your pup this year. It will be 2020 before you know it!
